Before starting the research and planning stage of our
coursework, I have taken time to analyse and look back at the skills that I
developed over Year 12 and how I wish to use these skills throughout Year 13.
In September 2016, I began my media class without knowing sophisticated
terminology when discussing sound, mise en scene, editing and cinematography. I
learnt these words through researching and watching films; giving examples on a
ThingLink. I then went on to use all the new language that I had learnt on
Blogger throughout the year and in my essay writing.
Our storyboard last year was not used when we were filming,
therefore making the creative process harder. This year, I will make sure that
my group and I create a detailed plan of the various shots we wish to recreate.
We would also create a digital storyboard in order for our teachers and peers
to grasp the clear concept of our News Package as this was a prominent problem
at the beginning of Year 12; our final idea was unclear to many.
For our first task, we were given the task of recreating the
opening sequence of Napoleon Dynamite. At this stage, my class peer Lucy and I
had no experience of using Premiere Elements and were unsure of how to
sophisticatedly edit our shots together. It is clear that this task was finished
at a basic level; however, we had managed to add music and edit the shots
smoothly together. The Preliminary task was the second project given to us in
Year 12. This was a simple where we recorded the conversation between two individuals
using shot-reverse-shot, 180 shot and, match on action. By creating this Prelim
task, we were able to showcase what we had learnt in the first few weeks of
Year 12. In ‘W27’, we clearly demonstrated that our camera skills had developed
over the year. We included panning shots, close and extreme close ups,
establishing shots and many more.
Considering the fact that we started Year 12 without this knowledge of
camera shots and cinematography skills, I am proud of the progress we had made.
This year, my group and I will continue to develop our skills.
Compared to Lucy and I's own title sequence, the titles in W27 are very sophisticated and of a much higher standard. At the start of the year, it is clear that we didn't know how to add animation to our titles and they were simply slapped onto of the shots. During Yr 13, we need to be more organised when it comes to creating our titles and graphics. We need to spread out the work load and understand a clear vision of what we want them to look like that we all agree on, at the beginning.
In Year 12, we did not have a clear schedule as to when we
would go and film. This year we will focus on meeting deadlines that we create
as a group. If a member of the group is not present when filming, we will continue
just as we did last year and deal with the situation we are faced with in a
calm and productive manner. I think we need to be stricter with ourselves and
this will enable us to complete the task as quickly and without stress.
I will take all these points into consideration for this year and continue to work collaboratively with my group.
