In order for us to understand how the internet is changing the film and news industry, we must look at what is replacing mainstream products. For example, we can look at the difference between 'normal' news programmes vs niche news programmes.
In addition, for our final project I think we should aim for the style of niche new programming as we can target students and allow them to feel related to the topic we are talking about, instead of being too formal and boring.
We can clearly see a difference between BBC News and The Project and the content in which they report about. Below are also videos of the two news programmes:
The Last Leg is a niche news programme that discusses hot topics within current world affairs however, comedically reports them. Like The Project, they have usual presenters but also invite guests onto the show; such a celebs and comedians. They also have a live audience in the studio, creating a communal effect. This is a new and exciting way of reporting the news that is attractive for digital natives. It is also a way of liberal thinking individuals to enjoy the comedic side of it, whilst being informed.

Despite the BBC News report being from 2015, it still shows exactly how the channel still report their news. The BBC is very formal and usually reports on very serious issues (especially in the 10pm news report as children are normal asleep). We can see a clear difference in the two channels. The Project is informal and they discuss issues around a desk with a panel of reporters. This therefore shows the difference in conventional news and niche news.
NICHE NEWS EXAMPLES:

'Russell Howard's Good News' is also another example of a niche news programme. He informs his audience with recent news stories in a comedic liberal way. His niche news programme recently changed from being shown on the BBC to Sky 1 changing the name of the show to 'The Russell Howard Hour'. His programme is another good example of how people can use humour to address problems within our society.
Below is an example of a section from Russell Howard's new show.
Overall niche news channels and programmes dominate the internet. They often make videos that are shared virally due to their comedic or relaxed nature. His show covers adult topics and does include some strong language and sexual references, something that not everyone will enjoy. This is why he attracts a specific audience and demographic of people - usually the younger generation.
